It was an excellent match for Tampa Bay Lightning as they defeated the Vancouver Canucks by 5-2. But the highlight of the game was definitely Steven Stamkos’s performance. The man gives justification to the word, lightning. The Tampa Bay Lightning forwards was on fire as soon as the match began, and he didn’t stop till the team defeated the Canucks.

Only about four minutes into the match, Stamkos created history in the annals of the National Hockey League and did something that he will be remembered for forever. What was the moment led him to write his name down in the history books?

That’s right. Stamkos became only the fifth hockey player to score the 500th goal on an empty net. The other four are Wayne Gretzky, Mike Bossy, Jari Kurri, and Keith Tkachuk. Overall, he became the 47th player to score 500 goals in the history of the National Hockey League. It was an extraordinary moment for the man, as well as the team.

This sensational achievement brought out the emotional side of the coach of the Tampa Bay Lightning, Jon Cooper. In fact, he gave an emotional speech in the locker room celebrating Stamkos’ astounding achievement. He said, “You look back, the cups and all those things, but this is an accomplishment. Hundreds and thousands of players play in this league, and only 4 have done it.”
