The New York Islanders, under coach Lane Lambert, is one of the strongest teams to compete in the NHL. However, of late, the team has faced some tough times from their opposition in the ongoing tournament. In their most recent venture against Ottawa Senators, even a barrage of attacks from the Islanders couldn’t penetrate the wall that the Senators had raised in the form of their goaltender. In doing so, the Islanders helped create a stunning record in the name of the Senators’ goalie, a 22-year-old debutante.

The score was 2-2 on both sides till the very end. While Brock Nelson and Ryan Pulock scored for the Islanders, it was Brady Tkachuk and Tim Stutzle who scored for the Senators. But with 46 saves on his debut, it was the goaltender for the Ottawa Senators who was the highlight of the game.

After a see-saw, the score was tied 2-2. The Senators finally sealed the deal in Shutouts with a 3-2 win. However, it was Ice Hockey player, Kevin Mandolese, with his 46 saves who created history in NHL.

With the 2nd most saves ever for anyone in their NHL debut, Mandolese missed the top spot in the said record, with just one goal. It was Craig Anderson in 2011, who with 47 goals still leads the chart for the most goals on NHL debut.

Just recently, they lost a game from a winning position against the Vancouver Canucks. The Rick Tochhet-led team was trailing by 3-4 and bounced back from there to win the match 6-5. It was a big turnaround for the Canucks coach in the eyes of their fans, as they went from criticizing him to hailing him as great. 

While the Islanders might be a little down after losing from the jaws of a win, they will get a chance to recover in their next game against Pittsburgh Penguins on 18th February 2023.
