As Shaun White’s retirement was nearing last year, the heartfelt bond between him and his trainer came to light. Speaking about their shared journey, the coach expressed, “We’ve been pretty emotional really all season,” he said. “It wasn’t even just today, it was the whole build-up for the year. We’re like, ‘There’s the last Dew Tour, the last World Cup.’”

Shaun White’s docuseries, unearthed a heartwarming moment that played a crucial role in his journey to securing his third Olympic gold medal in Pyeongchang. Amidst the pressure following his disappointing performance in Sochi, a touching interaction during training in Calgary became a turning point. Accompanied by his coach J.J. Thomas and friend Toby Miller, White encountered a group of kids at the half-pipe.

White’s encounter with the young fans as he successfully executed the daunting YOLO Flip symbolized a significant shift in the narrative. “Just because you’ve done a trick, doesn’t mean that you have it, you know? And you have to work at it. It’s kind of like a golf swing, it could be there for you one day, and the next it’s just gone. I hadn’t done the YOLO or the double 1440 probably since the last Olympics.” said Shaun.
