Since its inception in the year 1875, the Kentucky Derby has become a premiere destination for world-renowned celebrities and athletes. Every year, on the first Saturday of May, the rich and famous flock to Churchill Downs racetrack to witness one of the most elite Triple Crown events in person. On the same token, this year also, with just a few more hours to go until the 3-year-old thoroughbred races, the stands are already started to fill with well-known male and female attendees.

On 5th May, a multitude of celebrities and elite names from the sporting world graced their presence at the Barnstable Brown Kentucky Derby Eve Gala. The star-studded bash was packed with musical extravaganza and has raised millions of dollars for the Barnstable Brown Diabetes Center. Now, what took all the social media attention was an impromptu interaction between Kansas City Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes and $300 million worth American Business magnate and renowned sports bettor James Franklin McIngvale.

Last year, James Franklin a.k.a. Mattress Mack made a hefty bet of $1.5 million on Epicenter to win the 2022 Kentucky Derby. However, in the final round, Rich Strike trounced Epicenter and won the 2022 Kentucky Derby trophy. Though Epicenter stood in 2nd place, Mattress Mack lost the bet as he laid down the odds for Epicenter to win the race. Nonetheless, this year, the 72-year-old is once again back with yet another betting game.

On the same note, as a regular sports bettor, James Franklin bet affluence against Mahomes and the Chiefs several times. In 2020, Mack wagered $1 million on the San Francisco 49ers to defeat the Chiefs in the Super Bowl. He then laid down $1 million on the Houston Texans to triumph over the Chiefs during the divisional round. However, Mahomes clinched victories in both instances and hence caused a significant loss for Mattress Mack.

However, for losing last year’s opulent wager, the Houston-based businessman jokingly quipped NFL quarterback Patrick Mahomes on the red carpet.

As Mahomes was making his way toward the stands, Mattress Mack stopped him and greeted him. However, before parting their ways, Mack told Mahomes, “You cost me millions betting against you”. On this, the NFL champion replied, “Sorry about that one”. The Super Bowl MVP then told Mack to bet on him instead of against him the next time.

Interestingly, this year, the Two-time Super Bowl MVP will give the famous “Riders Up’ declaration before the race commencement.
