This fateful incident unfolded during the Deighton Cup in Vancouver on Saturday. A three-year-old filly named Lent Me Twenty lost her life in a paddock at Hastings racecourse. Mare lost her life right before her appearance in Vancouver’s version of the Kentucky Derby. According to the reports published in CTV News, the Mare trotted backward, struck her head on the ground, and lost her life instantly. David Milburn, the President of the Horsemen’s Benevolent and Protective Association of BC, stated, “Horses rear up and will go backwards sometimes, whether it’s in the paddock, show ring or on a trail. It’s so, so rare for a horse to hit its head and die.”
