The Gangwon 2024 edition of the Winter Youth Olympics faced ‌natural calamities at its inception. So ultimately, the outdoor events had to be shifted whereas the indoor events received the limelight largely. However, from the USA contingent perspective, Team USA decided to launch a fresh team to win the indoor events in Gangwon 2024. So, on that estimate, the figure skating part witnessed the Junior Grand Prix medalists fill up the squad. The same went with the pairs team as well. But unlike the ice dance squad of America, the pairs team consisted of the skaters’ duo who had no previous partnership experience between them. 

Eventually, in the final, the American duo of Cayla Smith and Jared McPike had to face the desperate Canadian young hoods. The results were riveting as the crowd broke in to celebrate the auspicious Gangwon 2024 indoor show. 

Canada extends the medal tally in the Gangwon 2024 indoor event 

On day 10 of the Winter Youth Olympics 2024 in Gangwon, Canada started the day with a golden note. The indoor events were set to take place in the Gangneung Ice Arena. So on that note, in the Pair skating event, the country bagged the gold medal. However, the nonchalant opponent USA could only stop at winning the silver medal. Spain won the bronze medal. Just after the final whistle, the IG handle of the Olympics updated about the standing. 

However, in further detail, the official update came from the Olympics’ website. So the Canadian pair of Annika Behnke and Kole Sauve earned the top place on the podium. The American pair of Cayla Smith and Jared McPike had to pay the price for their inexperience on the skating rink. But eventually, the price was still not that high as the Spanish team of Carolina Shan Campilo and Pau Vilella fell short of the American pair. But eventually, several factors culminated in the rivals’ gold victory.

The defying standup when inexperience lures the bout 

The Gangwon 2024 post-match scenario delved into a contrasting notion when the American pair gave out different statements regarding losing the gold medal. On the matter of late partnership with McPike and managing the challenges, Cayla Smith added, “It’s extremely difficult, just learning about each other and how each other skates… especially in such a short amount of time.” However, Jared McPike took a different stand.

McPike said, “We came here to have fun and take things one at a time. I think we did a good job with that.” Eventually, the Spanish team also reeled under the question of inexperience. On that, Carolina Shan Campilo conceded, “We’re happy because it’s our first international competition. It’s very different because there are so many people.” The same sentiment echoed in the Canadian pair’s statements as well.

Eventually, inexperience was also there when Behnke and Sauve faced a fall on the throw share. Despite that, they extended their points after a throw triple loop. Both the American and Spanish pair abstained from trying such monumental theatrics. End of the day, that stood as the culminating factor in deciding the champion.
