NIL queen Olivia Dunne and her MLB boyfriend Paul Skenes are history-makers. While Livvy and the LSU Gymnastics Lady Tigers celebrated the program’s first national championship this year, her Pittsburgh Pirates rookie ace boyfriend Paul Skenes is making big moves on the diamond, joining historic names in baseball history.

Olivia Dunne took to her Instagram stories on July 14 to celebrate one such moment, gearing up to cheer on her man as he was named the National League’s 94th All-Star Game starting pitcher. The two LSU lovebirds were seen dressed in matching all-black outfits, posing in front of a private jet. Skenes smiled lovingly at Livvy, who was captured laughing at the camera in a candid moment. The caption of her post read, “All star game bound!”

In a subsequent story, the two were seen aboard their flight in Dallas, Texas, holding hands with their friends sitting opposite them. Livvy captioned the post, “Squad UP!” Skenes has been absolutely on fire this season and Olivia Dunne has become a regular at his games. Since making his debut on May 11, he’s looked practically unhittable.

In his first 66 1/3 innings, he’s racked up a 6-0 record, a stunning 1.90 ERA, and 89 strikeouts. At just 22, Skenes is about to become the fifth rookie in MLB history to start an All-Star Game, joining legends like Hideo Nomo (1995), Fernando Valenzuela (1981), Mark Fidrych (1976), and Dave Stenhouse (1962). But that’s not all!

Skenes will also be the first Pirates pitcher in almost 50 years to start the All-Star Game. He’s joining legends like Jerry Reuss (1975), Dock Ellis (1971), Vern Law (1960’s second All-Star Game), and Bob Friend (1960’s first All-Star Game and 1956). Just 364 days after being drafted, Skenes found out he’d be an All-Star while chatting on the “Dan Patrick Show.” Arizona Diamondbacks manager Torey Lovullo interrupted to break the news.

Meanwhile, Olivia Dunne shared the excitement on Instagram, saying, “He’s an ALL STAR! @paulskenes.” Olivia went all out to celebrate Paul’s first All-Star selection, decking out the house and surprising him when he got home. And if starting in the All-Star Game wasn’t enough, he’s also eyeing a nearly 40-year-old historic record.

With Olivia Dunne by his side, Paul Skenes aims for a nearly 40-year-old MLB milestone

As Olivia Dunne gets ready for her fifth year at LSU, Paul Skenes enters the National League Cy Young Award conversation with a historic season. Beginning the year in the minors, Skenes faced odds as long as 200-1 to win the Cy Young. On Thursday, July 13, Skenes tossed seven hitless innings with 11 strikeouts in the Pirates’ nail-biting 1-0 victory over the Milwaukee Brewers, putting him in the same league as Nolan Ryan in MLB lore.

By Friday morning, after snagging the NL’s All-Star Game starting spot, Paul Skenes’ Cy Young odds dramatically tightened to 13-2—a rare shift in sportsbook predictions. ESPN BET had Skenes at 30-1 to win the NL Cy Young Award before his standout performance. Now, he’s sitting with the third-best odds in the NL, just behind Zack Wheeler (+160) of the Phillies and Chris Sale (+165) of the Braves, the frontrunners.

If he clinches the Cy Young at just 22, Skenes would join the ranks of Dwight Gooden and Fernando Valenzuela as one of the youngest-ever recipients of the National League Cy Young Award at 20 years old, after nearly 40 years. 2024 is shaping up to be a big year for Paul Skenes, and Olivia Dunne is proud of her “Bucco” through and through.
