Team USA members worked together in Belgium to earn themselves a quota for the upcoming Paris Olympics. However, now they will compete against each other to ensure that they reap what they sowed at Antwerp. Interestingly, a social media post caught a US gymnast declaring that he would qualify for Paris with a quirky reference, and it speaks volumes.

The clever response by Donnell Whittenburg

Team USA and USA Gymnastics recently uploaded a joint post carrying a video with a brief interview of the American men’s team. The interviewer asked the gymnasts what they were manifesting for 2024. While everyone gave cool responses, the answer given by Donnell Whittenburg stood out the most.

Whittenburg said, “I’m manifesting that I will be back in Paris.” While this may seem like a strange answer at first, Whittenburg is actually referring to his 2022 appearance in Paris at the World Challenge Cup. The 29-year-old had won a bronze medal in both parallel bars and rings.

Whittenburg would like to show the same fluidity in his movements like his thoughts and qualify for the Paris Olympics. Moreover, he would also be keen on turning his bronze victories into gold at the event. While Whittenburg has never been a part of the Olympic team before, he has a high probability of making it this time. In fact, he recently helped USA Gymnastics claim victory in Santiago.

Pan Am Games champion to morph into an Olympic champion?

Donnell Whittenburg helped Team USA clinch the team gold medal and also claimed an individual gold in the rings category. Whittenburg wasn’t a part of the gymnastics team that earned the Olympic quota in Belgium. However, he will surely make full use of the opportunity at his disposal to qualify for the Olympics.

The Pan Am champ already has a mastery in the ring apparatus. Moreover, he also has a skill named after him, called The Whittenburg Dismount. The move has been given the highest difficulty rating (D) and not everyone can execute it properly. Will the gymnastics star be able to qualify for the Olympics and brandish medals for the US in Paris?
