Losing to Simone Biles Despite Major Lead, Shilese Jones Does the Unthinkable at Day 2 of World Gymnastics Championships Selection Camp

The U.S. Women’s World Team Selection Camp kicked off with a thrilling opening day in Katy, Texas. This event left the gymnastics community completely enthralled. The day began with a twist nobody expected as Simone Biles, the reigning all-around champion, found herself finishing sixth in the first rotation, due to an unforeseen fall on uneven bars. On the other hand, Shilese Jones, her competitor, led the first standings after the beam and floor routines with a score of 27.650 on Day 1. Jones tied with Kaliya Lincoln. But the wonder was yet to happen.

The second-place position was held by Zoe Miller, Biles’ best friend, who scored 27.400, showcasing her skill on the uneven bars. Despite this lead by Shilese Jones on Day 1, Biles made an astonishing comeback on the scoreboard. Biles managed to secure a total score of 55.700 points in the final standings, after trailing behind in the first rotation of Day 1. Shilese Jones came in 2nd with a score of 55.300. This remarkably earned Biles her direct spot on the U.S. team for the World Championships. Now on Day 2 Shilese Jones, who was fighting for her spot on the team, has done the unthinkable and outshined Simone Biles!

On Day 2, Shilese Jones took the stage with unwavering determination and delivered a remarkable performance that left spectators in awe. According to USA Gymnastics meet results of Day 2, Shilese Jones secured a 14.750 on uneven bars while Simone Biles scored a 14.050 on the uneven bars. In the AA scores of Day 2, Jones also surpassed Biles, who was a contender for Day 2 despite winning AA on Day 1 and already securing her spot on the World Championships.

As Day 2 concluded, exciting news came for Jones as the AA scores of Day 2 also showed that Jones had outshined Biles and placed first on the list! Shilese Jones also took a lead on the Day 1 champion Biles, on Day 2 with an AA score of 29.100 while Biles scored 28.950 in AA according to the official meet results. But the good news didn’t end there for Jones!

Exciting update for Jones who joins Simone Biles

Post an exciting round-up after 2 days, an official announcement came from USA Gymnastics. Joining Simone Biles, at the end of Day 2 on the US Team roster, is Jones. Additionally, joining these stars are Skye Blakely, Joscelyn Roberson, and Leanne Wong. Further, Kayla DiCello joins these powerhouses of talent as a traveling replacement.

Moments later, the Pan American Games roster was also announced. Gymnastics star Jordan Chiles, joined by Kaliya Lincoln, Zoe Miller, Kayla DiCello, and Tiana Sumanasekera have made it to upcoming games scheduled from October 21 to November 4, 2023, in Chile.
