Team U.S.A. is still in disbelief at the record number of Olympic all-around champions making a return to the mat. After Simone Biles‘ stunning comeback performance and Sunisa Lee entering and exiting the elite competitions, another prominent face of American gymnastics has emerged out of the shadow of uncertainty.

Besides boasting of an impeccable resume of three Olympic gold medals and the title of being the first African American Olympic individual all-around champion, Gabby Douglas is also a dutiful mother. Recently, she fulfilled her motherly duties by buying a Christmas tree. But when it came to herself, she went full grunge to foretell her rebellion. Let’s just say the Christmas tree won’t be the only prickly thing in the Douglas household in this season of joy.

Gabby Douglas used her Instagram stories to inform her 1.5 million followers that Christmas decorations have already started in her house. Although there is more than a month left for the festivities to begin, the Olympian wanted to leverage the free time in her hand. Thus, with steady hands and wilful determination, she scrubbed off the macabre of Halloween.

She found the Christmas tree in a local shop with twinkling lights and several baubles hanging down its branches. It brought to her the memories from her own childhood when she and her siblings would wait for Father Christmas. She wanted her own household to reflect those joys this holiday season.

Gabby Douglas’ fierce holiday mood

As a victim of sexual violence at the hands of Larry Nassar and online bullying from haters, Douglas has developed a thick skin. She is stronger than ever and is in no mood to entertain nonsense. She made that very clear when she announced her comeback in early 2023. Gymnastics Now broke the news with the caption, “Mother Gabby Douglas is SERVING US today”. Her illustrious career brought her ample fame, but during her dark days, she had to face the adversities alone. This has taught her to be strong and self-dependent.

“It’s so easy to suppress and run away from facing darkness and fears for many years, i’ve had an ache in my heart but i didn’t want to keep carrying anger, pain, sadness, or regret and through my tears and hurt, i’ve found peace… i know i have a huge task ahead of me and i am beyond grateful and excited to get back out on the floor,” said the decorated gymnast. Her former teammate from the “Fierce Five”, Aly Raisman, has wished her success. With that motivation, she had set to revive the golden day of U.S. gymnastics.
