Gabby Douglas withdraws from the Core Hydration Classic

Fans were hoping for Gabby Douglas to give Simone Biles massive contention; however, Gabby Douglas’s uneven bars routine fell apart in the second front full pirouette. She came out of the handstand, tried to fix it, did a stalder half, got stuck again, and came off. She looked very upset. The crowd even chanted her name when she remounted.

The 2012 Olympic All-Around champion started on the low bar with a big Chow half and then dismounted with a double layout. So she didn’t complete half of that routine after the second fall, scoring 10.100. But then, after just the first rotation, a post on X by USA Gymnastics revealed that Gabby Douglas had withdrawn from the rest of the Core Hydration Classic. But the sad news did not end there.

Another blazing talent was seen exiting

Konnor McClain’s balance beam routine started strong with a hit on the first piece, a standing full. Then, the layout series was very nice. She executed a switch to switch half, followed by a side aerial, with just a little stumble on the switch ring. She ended with a layout dismount. It was fantastic and scored 14.200. However, despite the incredible performance, Konnor McClain was seen being carried off the floor after the first rotation.

And with that, the Rotation 1 Standings were as follows:

  1. Simone Biles 14.550
  2. Shilese Jones 14.350
  3. Konnor McClain 14.200
  4. Leanne Wong 13.950
  5. Jade Carey: 13.800
  6. Jordan Chiles 13.700
  7. Addison Fatta: 13.650
  8. Reese Esponda 13.600

Simone Biles executed her Balance Beam routine flawlessly, seamlessly transitioning from a switch leap mount to a switch half, pausing before flawlessly executing the back pike. Her triple series was executed with precision and grace, showcasing her unparalleled skill. Biles concluded her routine with a full-in dismount, landing with a small hop back, leaving the audience in awe of her phenomenal performance.

Meanwhile, Shilese Jones delivered a remarkable Yurchenko double full on the vault, earning a score of 14.350. Leanne Wong also impressed with a solid Yurchenko double, though she experienced a slight bounce upon landing, resulting in a score of 13.950. As the competition unfolded, fans of Gabby and Konnor were left heartbroken by their setbacks. However, we remain hopeful for their swift recovery from the challenges they faced.
