“Are you all done yet?” This is how Simone Biles responded to fan backlash over her husband Jonathan Owens’s comments on the Pivot podcast at the tail end of 2023. 28-year-old NFL safety Owens unwittingly sparked a maelstrom with his “I always say that the men are the catch” and admitting that “I didn’t know who she was at the time” about Biles.

These words shared on “The Pivot” podcast alongside his esteemed wife, hurled the NFL hunk into a whirlwind of scrutiny, leaving legions of Simone Biles’ fans in dismay. Owens faced criticism online for his comments with some even branding him a red flag and suggesting to Biles that she severed ties with her beloved husband. But just like she did back then, Biles has once again made it clear that her husband comes first for her.

“Really hurt,” Simone Biles addresses fan backlash on Jonathan Owens

Simone Biles was featured as a star guest on the renowned “Call Her Daddy” podcast, hosted by Alex Cooper, where she candidly discussed personal aspects of her life. A notable moment arose when Cooper inquired about the December 2023 controversy stemming from Jonathan’s “catch” comment and his assertion that he didn’t know Biles during the initial stages of their relationship.
Biles recounted her experience at “The Pivot” podcast interview, emphasizing, “There was nothing foul about it.” When asked about her initial reaction to the drama, Biles expressed amusement at the exaggerated responses, including suggestions for her to divorce Jonathan, noting his discomfort with the term “divorce.”

Biles said, “I thought it was hilarious at first, and then they hurt my feelings. And then one night, I broke down and I’m like: ‘Why are you guys talking about my husband like this? Like, you don’t know him. You don’t know who he is. And if anybody’s met him, they know he’s the sweetest guy and will do anything for anybody.”

She admitted that the situation eventually became hurtful because of comments about her husband. She said, “And so that really hurt that they were talking about my husband like that. Because for me it’s like, talk about me all you want, but don’t come for my family. Never. Yeah. Like, because I’ve been in the limelight long enough where I can brush things off, have my little powwow about it. You’re not gonna know. I cried about it, but I’d be crying about some stuff, you know? But I’m also, I only cry about it because I can’t clap back. Just know that.”
Simone Biles also offered her perspective on the interview, sharing insights into why she believed people were upset about it. She shared that she was at the interview but the reason fans could have become upset was because “It was all for him. So I think they were mad that he didn’t include me in the interview. But he has to have his moments too, and I let him have it.”
Interestingly, during the December podcast, Biles, who was present alongside Owens, said, “The other day I said, you know what, in a couple of years, nobody is going to call him, Simone Biles’ husband. They’ll call me Jonathan Owens’ wife.” Her recent comments weren’t the first time she came to her husband’s defense. Following the backlash on Owens for his comments, Biles took to social media to shut down the critics.

Biles came in support of her husband after online backlash

Back in December, Simone Biles’ frustration too was evident when she shared a picture of a confused child on X, asking, “Are y’all done yet?”
Owens also responded to the criticism directed at him and posted photos on Instagram from their wedding with the caption, “Unbothered,
Just know we locked in over here.”
Biles also commented on the post and wrote, “for life,” to dispel any rumors of a rift between the couple. Biles and Owens have been going strong ever since they met. Earlier this year after the Green Bay Packers lost to the San Francisco 49ers in the playoffs, Biles made a heartfelt post on Instagram.
She posted photos of the couple at the Packers’ final game of the season and wrote, “Love supporting you & your dreams,” The couple got married in April 2023, having first met in 2020 via the dating app Raya with Biles notably making the first move.
