The Winter Cup Day 2 commenced for the senior women on Saturday, February 24, 2024, at the senior women’s competition—all-around and events. Elite gymnastics stars like Kayla DiCello, Trinity Thomas, and many others were set for an epic showdown. Tokyo Olympics All-Around champion Suni Lee, too, was one to watch out for as she was making her grand comeback after months of sitting out of competition.

However, before her debut, Suni faced a scary moment. As the night progressed, the young talent was also faced with quite a few challenges. However, undeterred, she left fans wanting more. Let us see how the night unfolded for Suni Lee.

Suni Lee faces an injury scare ahead of her comeback

Before the Winter Cup senior women’s competition, all-around events began on  Friday, Feb. 23. A post on X by a handle called Nancy Armour highlighted, “Suni wasn’t planning to do a dismount during warmup and was just going to walk off the beam, but her foot slipped right at the end and she tumbled onto the mat.”

Despite the unexpected fall, both Suni and Jess, likely a teammate or coach, found the situation amusing and laughed it off.  However, amid the competition, Suni Lee once again faced more challenges. Let us see her performance from the night. Suni, making her much-anticipated return, aimed to showcase her newest move, ‘The Lee,’ a daring full-twisting layout Jaeger on the uneven bars.

However, her comeback faced setbacks as she encountered difficulties during her routine, resulting in two unexpected falls and a score of 11.800 on the uneven bars. Undeterred, she demonstrated resilience by executing a triple wolf turn on the balance beam, though not without some wobbling and a slight stumble.
