“That Year Was Going to Be It”: American Gymnastics Sensation Felt ‘Devastated’ After the Loss at the 2022 NCAAs

Trinity Thomas is currently one of the best-emerging gymnasts at the collegiate level in the US. The 21-year-old gymnast has earned massive numbers of NCAA titles on uneven bars, floor, and even all-around. However, the one thing that is still missing from her NCAA portfolio is conquering a team championship title. Henceforth, Thomas has made a comeback to achieve this feat as well. After missing the title from an extremely minimal margin in 2022 NCAA women’s team gymnastics. Thomas is curious to take the Gators to victory in 2023.

As the NCAA action began on the sixth of January this year, Thomas has both her eyes focused on her goal to take her team to the championship title this year.

Gymnastic sensation opened up on the 2022 NCAA team silver

After giving a spectacular performance in 2022, and winning three gold medals. Moreover, she gave a high chance to her team by scoring 10, but Trinity Thomas and the team had to settle in the second position. The feeling of missing the mark so closely must have been hurt. And while expressing her feeling, Thomas opened up while talking with The Athletic. Thomas said, “I was devastated.”

Thomas continued, “I really thought that that year was going to be it. I took a second and — there were some tears — but I was just so proud of my team and how hard they fought from beginning to end and what an amazing, incredible season we had.”

And after that close miss on gold for the team, this time she is returning to make it right. While talking to The Athletic she revealed, “There is one thing that I haven’t quite done yet, and that’s win a national title with my team.” She added, “I definitely think that it’s something that’s very realistic. I wanted to come back to help us do it.” 

Trinity Thomas decided to return for the fifth and final season

The 21-year-old has shown some marvelous set of performances in the past few years. Especially the last year was incredibly remarkable. With her outstanding performance, she was even compared to the likes of the next Simone Biles for the US. However, a task that remained unfulfilled last year, Trinity Thomas decided to come back in the 2023 season for the fifth and final season while pursuing a Master’s in Health Education and Behavior.

During the Honda Sports Award Academy, Thomas announced her coming back. She happily announced, “So, I just started my Masters in Health Education and Behavior and I’m excited to announce that I’ll be returning for my fifth year at the University of Florida.”
