At the 2023 World Artistic Gymnastics Championships in Antwerp, the Women?s Qualifications Day 1 has kicked off, and it’s already clear that Simone Biles is here to dominate once again. Simone Biles, known for pushing the boundaries on the gymnastics podium, has already left a mark with four elements named after her in the F?d?ration Internationale de Gymnastique?s (FIG) Code of Points ?- one on vault “Biles”, one on balance beam “Biles”, and two on the floor exercise, “Biles” and “Biles II”.

However, it was in 2021 that the seven-time Olympian truly stunned the world by introducing a ground-breaking element on the Vault – the Yurchenko Double Pike. Biles became the first woman ever to execute this challenging maneuver flawlessly, but her name had yet to be officially associated with it on the global stage. That’s all changed now.

Simone Biles unlocks a new level

On Women?s Qualifications Day 1 at the 2023 World Artistic Gymnastics Championships, Simone Biles executed the Yurchenko Double Pike Vault, and she can now proudly claim it as “Biles II” on vault. A video on X by FIG has captured this exceptional performance for the world to witness.

The Yurchenko Double Pike Vault is widely regarded as one of the most demanding elements in gymnastics. It involves two flips performed in the pike position, where the gymnast extends their legs straight while folding their body at the waist. Biles not only executed it with exceptional precision, but also added her signature flair.

Biles has not only achieved the feat of becoming the first woman to participate the Yurchenko Double Pike at a National level but also now she is the first to ever perform it on an international global level in 2023. Her performance on the vault was nothing short of remarkable, earning her a solid score of 15.266.

She also topped the All-Around scores of the Women?s Qualifications Day 1? with a score of 58.865. Shilese Jones of Team USA came in the second position with a score of 56.032. Jessica Gadirova of Great Britain came in third with a score of 56.766.
