The 2000 Sydney Olympics are well versed with most Olympians. It hosted some of the greatest Olympic athlete parties ever. The Australian team was allowed to celebrate due to the Olympians welcoming the new millennium that year, that too in their homeland. However, rules were strict under the Tokyo 2020 Olympics, which accounted for their 17 golds. Hence, the Australian Olympic Commission (AOC) intends to move forward with the team’s Tokyo focus and clamp down on its party culture.

Surprisingly, keeping that intention in mind, the Australian Olympians are to be booted from the Olympics village next year, per News Corp. The AOC claims that it will prove to be beneficial for the overall performance and health of the team, with evidence. But, some former athletes are disappointed by the news.

According to reports, the 2020 Tokyo Olympics was a success for the nation because of its comparably stringent rules that leveled down on their partying episodes. Therefore, as per the new measures, the Australian athletes shall have to leave the village premises within a time span of 48 hours after their games. A certain relaxation shall be given to athletes competing in equipment-heavy events.

Moreover, every Olympics year calls for scrutiny of the Australian Olympic Team’s promotion of such escapades. Therefore, the authorities are fixed on their plan of action for 2024. However, the Aussie Olympians can choose to stay in Europe and attend the closing ceremony “at their own expense.”

Gold medalist swimmer, Giaan Rooney, remarked, “I think it’s a real shame because for most people this is a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity…“It diminishes the Olympic experience.” Moreover, two-time World Champion, James Magnussen voiced his opinion. He said, “sending them home early just makes no sense. Speaking as a swimmer, this feels like a transactional decision. “Being an Olympian is not just about winning medals.

“It is a rare achievement that deserves to be properly celebrated – no matter what result they achieve,” the swimmer added.  Whereas sprint canoeist, Ken Wallace seemed quite supportive of the decision. “I agree that being in the Olympic Village is a part of the whole Olympic Games experience but I don’t agree that it should outweigh performance,” the 39-year-old athlete opined.
