On January 2013, 13 years after Lance Armstrong secured third place at the 2000 Sydney Summer Olympic Games, the cyclist was asked to return his bronze medal. After delaying it for several months, Lance finally handed back the medal to the International Olympic Committee (IOC).

He announced the same on his social media and received praise from his fans for doing the right thing. 

Lance Armstrong was stripped of his Olympic title

A few months before Armstrong’s announcement, the IOC had expunged Armstrong’s third-place finish in Sydney. Subsequently, they asked for the medal back. The strict decision to expunge Lance’s victory came after he admitted to doping during the tournament. Armstrong had formally declared that he used performance-enhancing drugs throughout his professional life. During the time the retired cyclist was asked to return his medal, he had already been stripped of his Tour de France titles.

Finally, in a Twitter post addressed to the IOC, Armstrong declared that he had finally returned the medal in question. He wrote, “The 2000 Bronze is back in possession of @usolympics and will be in Switzerland asap.”

A spokesperson for the IOC later confirmed the same. “Yes, we have it… it is in the vaults,” he stated. The IOC also confirmed that they will not be reallocating the bronze medal. 

Armstrong’s antics are relentless

Lance Armstrong is arguably the most notorious athlete in the history of his sport. Recently, the 51-year-old got involved in another shameful incident. In Puerto Pollensa, Mallorca, the retired athlete was having dinner and drinks with friends at the Hotel Illa d’Or.

At the event, Armstrong reportedly tried to videotape some women at a wedding reception. Additionally, according to various sources, Armstrong repeatedly tried to engage a married woman who was constantly dismissing all his attempts to make conversation. A guest reported, “But he wouldn’t let up and he invited her to walk outside with him for a discussion.”
