Paulina Gretzky, daughter of Wayne Gretzky and Janet Jones, tied the knot with golf sensation Dustin Johnson in April 2022. The couple married after dating for nine long years. However, although she dated the golf player for almost a decade and now has two children together, Paulina had a surprising tidbit to share back in 2021. She revealed on the Pillows and Beer podcast, that she wasn’t interested in golfers during high school. 

In the interview, Paulina opened up about a brief mother-daughter conversation that helped her find perspective. What were Janet Jones’ words to her daughter?

Wayne Gretzky’s daughter wasn’t into golfers at all

In season two, episode seven of the Pillows And Beer podcast, Craig and Austin talked about playing golf during their college. They mentioned that they were talking to the then-girlfriend of the top golfer in the world. That’s when Paulina disclosed that during her high school or college days, she wasn’t interested in golfers at all. 

She shared an anecdote about a conversation with her mother, actress Janet Jones. Paulina said, “My mom was like, Paulina, I’m gonna set you up with a golfer… I was like, eh no…” That is how she ignored her mother’s wish then, but eventually, ended up with a golfer as her partner.

“Waiting for His Little Girl”: Wayne Gretzky’s Wife Shared an Adorable Message on Daughter Paulina’s Big Day With Dustin Johnson Earlier This Year

Although, how Paulina and Dustin met for the first time is another interesting story featuring Dustin, Paulina, and Janet. It was Jones who introduced Paulina and Dustin to each other over dinner.

The first meeting of Paulina and Dustin 

Paulina shared the story with Golf Digest during an interview. She recalled, “told Dustin about her daughter, blah-blah-blah, and invited him to the house that night. I’m sure he was rolling his eyes, and so was I when my mom invited me over to meet this golfer she had just met. 

Hence, this was how they met for the first time and exchanged their numbers over that meeting. Eventually, Janet Jones did what she said she would do, and it ended up being the right decision for her daughter as well. Although things didn’t go as Paulina planned in her teenage, she is now celebrating ten years of togetherness with her golfer husband, while living happily with their kids.
