The shrew thief planned the robbery quite well and smoothly got away with the goods ranging around $75,000. The store owner, Luke Crisby, later revealed that he might have seen the thief at the big gatherings in his store in the past month. However, among those cards were rare $2,200 worth of Gretzky collectibles, which are counted among the great cards. Fortunately, for Crisby, the thief didn’t know about the difference in the cards’ value.

As the thief went to sell the card around 25 miles away from the incident, the owner of Froggers House Cards felt something suspicious about the man and informed the RCMP. He said, “When I saw the card, I was like, ‘Oh, where’d you get this from?’ And he had no idea about the card. He had no information on it. So that kinda set off a red flag for me. And I was like, how do you have this big of a card and you don’t know anything about it?”

The owner of the theft store called this catch a positive one for everyone as the robbers might have a sense of fear now. He said, “It should deter thieves from all over North America from hitting hobby shops, along with the fact that we do document all the serial numbers on our cases and we video all of the cards in our display cases.” On the other hand, he was happy that around half of the theft goods ($30-35,000) were provided back to him. Moreover, he thanked the friends and people from the industry who helped him out.
Further, shockingly, when the RCMP officers tracked down the thief’s home. As reported by CTV News Edmonton, the officers recovered “a semi-automatic rifle, ammunition, crystal methamphetamine, stolen mail and a large stash of various collectibles.”
