Why did Wayne Gretzky invest in Lacrosse?

Lacrosse is a North American sport, which is played with a lacrosse stick (crosse) and a ball. The target is to get the ball into the opponent’s goal by passing the ball to your teammates with the crosse. In a 2021 interview, while opening up on his favorite childhood sports, Gretzky revealed, “I loved and enjoyed playing: lacrosse, and box-lacrosse in particular.” 

In 2021, Gretzky invested in National Lacrosse Leagues’ Las Vegas franchise, along with co-investors Joe Tsai, Dustin Johnson, and Steve Nash.

Gretzky tries his hand at Lacrosse with Joe Tsai

Joe Tsai is a co-investor in NLL’s Las Vegas franchise and Executive Chairman of Alibaba Group. Moreover, Tsai was the first one to invest in the league, which was further followed by the other investors. 

However, in June 2021, after they became the co-investors, Gretzky and Tsai were seen playing Lacrosse passing game in a lobby. The video was uploaded by NLL’s official Twitter account and was extremely loved by the fans.
