Dale Brisby reveals his favorite rodeo story

In his latest Instagram story, Dale Brisby shared a snippet from his recent podcast featuring Junior Nogueira, the 2016 World Champion All-Around Cowboy, and the 2021-2022 World Champion Heeler. In the video, Dale asked Nogueira, ?Tell me about that year that you roped with Jo Jo?.

Junior recalled the 2015 moment, saying, ?I roped with Jake. You know Jake Barnes is my mentor. So as we were practicing for the NFR in Arizona, a horse fell on Jake.? which left him with a serious brain injury and unable to compete. This led to Jo Jo Lemond stepping in to fill his shoes, despite the fact that the two “had never roped together. Never had run one steer together.?

They placed in eight rounds and had a shot at winning the gold buckle. Junior Nogueira shared, ?If he just stops the clock, then I?d be the World Champion that day?. But Jo Jo Lemond found himself trailing and asked Junior, ?Do you just want to go there and catch and knock it out??

Junior replied, “No, man, we have a chance as well. So we?re here together. We?re about to make the same run we have made together, so if it?s meant to be, it?s meant to be.”?Junior could have taken the easier path and become the World Champion that year, but he took the road less traveled and showcased real cowboy spirit.

Jo Jo Lemond recalled the moment with One on One in 2016, ?I hate it for Junior. I wanted that gold buckle for him. If I had it to do all over again, I?d do it just the same, I?d just hope for a different outcome.?

While Junior shared, ?We should?ve caught one more, but it wasn?t meant to be. It wasn?t in God?s time. But man, that was a fun NFR. Every one of them?.?
