“Helping to Build Public Skateparks”: Skating Legend Tony Hawk Teamed Up With Michelin Star Chef Gordon Ramsay and Sky Brown for Charity

Tony Hawk is a pioneer of skateboarding. Hawk didn’t just popularize the sport, he laid the foundation of modern skateboarding. From inventing tricks to performing them before anyone else, Hawk has dedicated his life to skateboarding. As a result, Tony has become a celebrity who even the most casual fans love. The skating legend is also passionate about providing an opportunity to those who need it.

In one such effort, Tony Hawk teamed up with celebrity chef Gordon Ramsay and pro skateboarder in the world, Sky Brown. Hawk announced how he’ll do that in his latest post on Instagram.

Tony Hawk gives back through ‘The Skatepark’ project

On October 13, Tony Hawk along with Sky Brown appeared as guests in Gordon Ramsay’s show Hell’s Kitchen. After the episode aired, Hawk posted a picture on Instagram alongside Gordan and Sky. However, it wasn’t just an ordinary post, as Hawk announced his plan to auction off the skateboard he used during the show. The caption read, “The skateboard I used for @hellskitchenfox (Hell’s Kitchen) – signed by @gordongram (Gordon Ramsay) & @skybrown (Sky Brown) – is now available for auction.”

Hawk also revealed that “All proceeds to go @theskateparkproject (The Skatepark Project), helping to build public skate parks in underserved areas.” During the episode, Ramsay also asked both Tony and Sky about the key to their success. While Tony said that it was consistency, Brown revealed that for her, it’s attention to detail.

The legendary skater founded the Tony Hawk Foundation in 2002. Hawk created it with the goal to build skate parks for kids in underserved communities.

As of today, Tony’s foundation has built over 600 skate parks across all 50 states in America. The foundation has also awarded more than $10 million to help construct public skate parks. In 2020, The Tony Hawk Foundation changed its name to The Skatepark Project.

The face of a two-decade-long gaming franchise

Tony Hawk has found just as much success in the gaming industry. While the first video game featuring Hawk came out in 1999, the latest one came out in 2020. Since 1999, 20 titles have come out, developed by various studios. “Pro Skater 1+2” (2020), is playable on every major gaming platform. The franchise has achieved critical acclaim and sold millions of copies worldwide.

Tony Hawk’s contribution to skateboarding elevated the sport. Tony inspired millions across the globe but didn’t stop at that. The moment Hawk could give back to the community, he did so with open arms. Since 2002, Hawk’s foundation has helped guide underprivileged kids to a brighter future, and it aims to keep doing that in the future.
