When it comes to skateboarding, Tony Hawk is a man that needs no introduction. Also known as the ‘Birdman’, he has been dominating skating competitions since the 1980s and the 1990s. There are many accomplished skaters out there, but what makes Hawk the God of skating, is that he is a pioneer who helped make the sport mainstream at the end of the 20th century.

Tony Hawk’s legacy is immeasurable when it comes to skating. And now, his sons are carrying it forward. Needless to say, Hawk is a pretty proud papa. Recently, he expressed his pride in his sons through an Instagram post.

The Birdman took to Instagram to share a photo of his son skating while he stood at the edge of a half-pipe. The 55-year-old also expressed his happiness that Keegan was becoming a pro skater. In the caption, he wrote, “A special moment for me last week: Keegan doing a stale fish on Riley’s backyard ramp during a short session we had.” Keegan Hawk, currently 21 years old, is Tony Hawk’s second son with his second wife, Erin Lee.

While praising his son, Hawk further wrote in the post, “I never imagined that ALL of our kids would be interested in skating… especially vert. They might be patronizing me on the last part but I cherish these shared, fleeting times.” Keegan was born in July 2001, and since his childhood, he had many opportunities to learn to skate. In an episode of Hawk vs. Wolf, a podcast hosted by Tony Hawk and Jason Wolf, the skating icon revealed that his son dropped into Woodward’s mega-ramp when he was just an 11-year-old and away at skating camp.

In the 70th episode of Misfits Podcast, which starred Keegan Hawk himself, he revealed that he had been “raised skating a lot”. He also revealed that he had been skating for as long as he could remember. However, Keegan Hawk is not the only son of the legendary Tony Hawk who has taken up skating.

Legacy of the Birdman goes on

Hawk’s eldest son, Riley Hawk, also followed in his father’s footsteps and took up skateboarding as his professional vocation. It is clear that the virtuoso Tony Hawk’s blood runs through his veins, as Riley Hawk proved himself in pro skating only a short while after he began his journey. In the 2003 Boom Boom Huckjam, when Riley was merely 10 years old, he managed to complete his first 540, an aerial trick where the skater completes one and a half rotations airborne. While Tony built his career around vert skating, Riley went the way of street skating.

In 2013, he was named the Best Amateur Skater by Skateboarder Magazine, and later that year, Riley turned pro. The 30-year-old became one of the most exciting newcomers in skating when he was introduced as a playable character in his father’s video game, Tony Hawk’s Pro Skater 1 + 2. Riley Hawk is also quite a musician, being the singer and guitarist of a rock band, Warish. It seems like both Keegan and Riley are on their way to carrying forward their father’s legacy and making it immortal.
