“It’s Pretty Harsh…Okay”: Shaun White Once Revealed the Strange Reply His Mother Would Give Whenever He Inquired About His Dad’s Occupation

White has always been open about the tremendous support he received from his family. From traveling and living in a van to motivating him for the 2006 Olympics, they have been a huge support for him. So, when fans came to know that Shaun, as a kid, had no idea about his dad’s occupation, they were curious. Not only did Shaun not understand what his father did for a living, but he was also more weirded out by the replies his mother gave when he raised the topic.
Shaun White had no idea what his father did
In a podcast that Shaun had done, he was asked about his parents, and he was quick to answer about his mother. Shaun’s mother Cathy worked as a food service employee while his father was a worker at the water department in the city of San Clemente. Here Shaun also jested that although he had an idea about his mom’s work, he did not know what his father Roger’s job was. He said, “my dad used to work for the city of San Clemente in the water department. I don’t know what it means…”

When Shaun popped the inquiry regarding Roger’s job to Cathy, her reply was equally bizarre. This four-time Olympian remembers what she had said.
She straight up told a young Shaun that his father slept on duty. No wonder he was unable to make a sense of Roger’s job description. When reminiscing this tale the snowboarding legend was heard blurting out, “It’s pretty harsh…okay”.

Hailing from a middle-class background, Shaun ‘Flying Tomato’ White’s dreams always meant sacrifices for his family. His parents fully supported his passion for snowboarding.

They would even camp for months at the foot of the mountain to let him sharpen his skills. No wonder, when he won his first gold at the 2006 Olympics, tears welled up in his father’s eyes. Shaun also seems to have a huge adoration for his family, frequently posting pictures of them on social media.
