Surfing coach on the receiving end of a surfboard

Brett Barley is a surfing coach to many who are beginners in the sport. A lighthearted mishap recently found its way into Barley’s surf-filled days. He posted a video to Instagram showing him teaching an eager student how to navigate the powerful waves that surfaced. A comical turn of events resulted in a collision between Brett and one of his proteges’ surfboards due to a momentary lapse in attention.

While no serious injuries were thankfully sustained, the incident served as a valuable safety lesson for both the instructor and the student.

Reflecting on the moment, Brett remarked, “When you’re teaching kids to surf bigger waves, never assume they won’t send it on the sets!” The unexpected encounter reminded him of the importance of staying alert and maintaining a keen sense of situational awareness.

With a touch of self-inflicted humor, Brett admitted his oversight and took the foam board to the head in stride. He penned in the caption, “Great learning moment for myself… Tried to sneak a bigger set, didn’t expect one of the kids to try and go, let my guard down, and copped a soft top to the dome. Haha No harm done though”. The caption showed that even though he has so much experience he was willing to learn for it and also poke fun at himself.
