Lucy Art, a swimming sensation from America, has done something similar in the brief life span she has lived till now. Art won the 50-yard freestyle in the 2022 Wisconsin Interscholastic Athletic Association (WIAA). However, her path to this victory has been much more complicated than one may imagine.

The process of comeback is extremely difficult, but the result is much sweeter. Lucy Art did an incredible job getting back to swimming and achieving this honor just 20 months after the accident. It’s not a task of a day or a week. It took her all her skill sets and a humongous amount of bravery to get through all this. Moreover, when she won it, she took a few minutes to understand what had just happened.

While talking to the news channel TMJ4, Art described the moment of victory and how she felt. She said, “At first, I like looked up on the board. I couldn’t, like right after you’re so tired, I couldn’t really tell. So it took me a few minutes to process, and then I was so happy.”

The swimming sensation survived a lethal shark attack 20 months ago. The accident took place in the sea when she was enjoying waves with her cousins; and the shark came from nowhere and bit off her leg and arm, sparing her severely injured. However, Art didn’t realize at first as it was a shark until she saw the shark jumping out. She explained, “And I realized it was a shark, and it liked grabbed my hand. So my right hand was in its mouth.”

The bites were lethal and, “the shark actually took a bite, like took a piece of my tendon.” Moreover, she got immensely scared because she knew, “There’s such a high rate of infection in shark bites.” Art never thought that she will be able to find her way out and make a comeback. However, as the rehab continued, the belief and motivation to become better got bigger. And eventually, she made a massive comeback this year to win the WIAA swimming title.
