“RIP”: Michael Phelps Mourns Tragic Passing of Family Member With a Happy Memory

Winning medals for your country comes with immense pressure. But for Michael Phelps, his dogs kept things in perspective for him. Their unconditional love and innocence is what pushed him to adopt dogs his whole life. “They don’t care if I win another medal—they just want to know when we can run around the backyard and chase after the ball next,” he said once.

However, recent updates suggest a somber turn of events, indicating the passing of his cherished pet, Legend. Despite this loss, the legacy of love and companionship that Legend brought into the Phelps family’s life remains in their memories forever.

Michael Phelps recently shared a story on Instagram, capturing a cherished moment with his beloved pet, Legend. In a heartwarming throwback video, the air resonated with the laughter of Phelps’ family, their affectionate embrace enveloping Legend as he played joyfully amidst their midst. However, a shadow was cast over this tender scene by Phelps’ caption, “Rip Ledgey,” revealing the silent struggle Legend faced against cancer, yet his spirit prevailed in the cherished memories they shared.

In a separate Instagram post, Phelps further shared his love for both his dogs that passed away. His dog Juno passed away earlier in September 2021. “We had some pretty awesome times buddy…. Thanks for being such a bad a*s dog! Love ya and will always miss ya ledgey Say hi to Juno and herm for us! Rip buddy,” the caption read.

Phelps’s wife, Nicole, too took to Instagram to share her thoughts. “Saying good bye is never easy. After months of Legend battling a tumor on his forehead he told us it was time for him to find Juno again. Hug your fur babies tight for me tonight.”

Despite the sorrow of Legend’s passing, Phelps and his family continue to embrace the joy and companionship that their newest addition, Onyx. However, did you know that Legend loved the water?

When Phelps shared the eccentric personalities of his dogs!

In a candid 2017 interview with ‘Pet Business’, the legendary Olympian reminisced about Legend’s exuberant spirit, describing how the canine companion was always eager to frolic in and out of the pool. “My family has always lived an active, healthy lifestyle, so it’s very important to us that our dogs do the same. Between their daily walks and tons of yard play, they burn a lot of fuel every day.”

“Juno and Legend are opposites when it comes to water. Legend absolutely loves it, but Juno is not a fan of water at all! Legend is always in and out of the pool, wanting to play. French Bulldogs aren’t really known for their swimming abilities, so while he doesn’t care to swim laps, he does love to run around and play in the shallow area. It also helps keep him cool in the Scottsdale heat.”

Apart from Onyx, Juno, and Legend, Phelps has had multiple dogs as pets. He had Bella, Bruce, and Herm- who passed away years ago. Clearly, he is an avid dog lover. In fact, his love for dogs also led him to a partnership with ‘Nulo Pet Food’. Phelps is also an investor in the company.
