The Doping Allegations

Grace Nwokocha, a gifted track and field sprinter and Olympic qualifier from Nigeria was accused of doping. This marked the beginning of her journey from victory to controversy. The Athletics Integrity Unit temporarily suspended her last September after discovering that she had tested positive for the illegal anabolic steroids ligandrol and ostarine. According to Sports Now, these substances, which the World Anti-Doping Agency (WADA) has labeled as non-Specified Substances, cast doubt on her performance and sparked an inquiry into the legitimacy of her track and field victory.

When the case reached the Commonwealth Games Federation Court in May, Nwokocha and her legal team presented a defense. They claimed that she unknowingly drank Lucozade from a contaminated bottle, blaming a Nigerian teammate for the contamination. It was a last-ditch effort to salvage her reputation and hold onto the cherished gold medal. However, Nwokocha’s track and field hopes were dashed by the court’s decision. She was found guilty of doping violations after her argument was vehemently rejected.
