Most people are able to find satisfaction in the getting-down-on-one-knee kind of marriage proposal, but this guy definitely took things too far. L

Marriage Proposal Turned Rock Climbing Nightmare

According to New York Post, it all started when Michael Banks decided that the conventional way would just not make the benchmark for him. So the next best option, at least according to him, was to climb a 600-foot cliff and shout his love from the top of the mountains, literally. Banks climbed the 600-foot Morro Rock situated near California’s Central Coast.

Not a smart thing to do, because climbing this landmark is usually banned, even though some people still take their odds. There have been several falls over the years as well, but Banks was lucky enough to make it out alive and unharmed.

While Banks had nothing special to say about his ordeal, the fire chief who rescued him did not hold back and suggested that other people considering marriage proposals should choose a place “where you’re not in danger of falling off a cliff.”

The Good News and the Bad News

The good news was that Michael Banks succeeded in his proposal. His girlfriend said yes. The bad news? Though he reached safely to the top, he took the steeper trail to climb down, which cost him dearly. He got stranded on a ledge with no place to go and his foot hanging 80 feet off the ground.

The Morro Bay fire department had to swoop in using a helicopter and save Banks’ life. The fire department, Todd Gailey, had to hover down using a rope to carry Banks to safety. According to Gailey, Banks was calm for the most part, although a little unnerved. This is not surprising, given his dangerous stint that put his life at risk.
