Considered as an extreme sports activity, hiking gets the adrenaline flowing and the blood pumping. However, in their pursuits of finding thrill on the edge of rocky mountains and steep terrains, some hikers either fall prey to brutal accidents or may end up trading their lives. Likewise, on Friday 14th April, a teen hiker got into a dreadful accident while hiking in Maine’s Acadia National Park, and lost his life in the process.

Bryce Basso, a 17-year-old boy from the Otter Cliff area, was hiking with his friends at the Acadia National Park when he fell approximately 25 feet to his death while making his way up onto the cliff. The park rangers tried to resuscitate the teen, but their efforts went in vain and he was later declared dead by the authorities present on the scene. Following this, many came forward to express their sincere eulogies to the kid.

A few hours ago, Today took to its Facebook handle to share the horrific news of Bryce Basso’s untimely demise. Basso was identified as a junior at Maine’s Brewer High School. The Principal, Brent Slowikowski, and the superintendent Gregg Palmer penned their last tributes to the kid, and stated, “Please keep Bryce and his family in your thoughts and prayers as we support and take care of one another in this time of loss”. Though the authorities found out the cause of death, the details about how exactly the accident unfolded are still being pondered upon.

Mountain climbing, hiking, and walking on rocky terrains or cliffs are indeed some of the most exuberant getaways. However, the pursuers of all the above activities always remain under the scrutiny of dangers residing in the embrace of mountains. Just like the incident in Acadia National Park, in January 2023, a woman hiker lost her life after sliding hundreds of feet from the mountains.
