“Super Dramatic and Super Scary”: Self Admitted Worst Experience of Her Life for Rock Climbing Pro Shared With Joe Rogan in 2020

The sporting world of rock climbing is filled with adventures full of courage. For the one who climbs the giant rocks, it is a sport of moxie. Likewise, Emily Harrington is a professional rock climber, who with her tenacity and passion for adventures gained widespread popularity. In fact, Emily is the 5-time recipient of the US-National championship title in sport climbing. Until now, everything sounds amazing. But, what does the sport of climbing look like from behind the scenes?

Rock climbing is popular for its courageous prompts and high-edged mountains. The sport is infamous for its scary falls and dangerous plummets. A while back, Emily was seen talking about her near-death falls from up the mountains and her drive to stand up and fight back.

Emily Harrington recalls scary fall story

In 2020, Emily appeared in an episode of the podcast hosted by Joe Rogan. Rogan asked Emily to share about the dangerous falls of her career. On this, Emily recalled her Golden Gate fall. She said, “I hit my head and I instantly felt the blood pouring down my face. It was super dramatic and super scary”. 

The fall made Emily physically and emotionally drained. She said, “I was emotionally kind of destroyed and drained.” Though she has fallen from a great height, she didn’t get any internal injuries. Emily further added, “I kind of fell sideways and I couldn’t get my feet out in front of me in a time and my head just got bounced off the wall like a basketball.”

Clearly, based on Emily’s revelations, the whole scenario was really scary and she got worried she might never climb again.

The Golden gate fall was not the first scary fall of Emily’s career. In 2019, while Emily was on the same adventure at Golden Gate, she fell from the first pitch of the same route. She fell from a height of 50ft above the ground. Emily said, “it was pretty serious. It was definitely the worst experience I’ve ever had”.

However, Emily did complete the Golden gate climb and became the first woman to climb the Golden Gate route at EL Captain Yosemite National Park in 2020. Emily is a true inspiration for all the rock-climbing enthusiasts out there. With this, we only wish the best for Emily for all her future endeavors.
