Reaching for the high pinnacles of the giant rocks with just a thin rope between you and disaster sounds dangerous. Well, the legends Alex Honnold and Tommy Caldwell make the adventure of moxie sounds like a piece of cake. Together, both the champions have trounced a number of insanely steep, sky-touching rocks. However, Honnold and Caldwell are yet to discover what it feels like to climb Colorado’s infamous Black Canyon.

From completing the Fitz Roy Traverse to making an ascent on Rocky Mountain National Park, Honnold and Caldwell together left no stone unturned. Last year, the climbers revealed the next adventure they are looking forward to. Interestingly, the next on their list is one of the scariest routes in Colorado.

In 2022, Honnold and Caldwell appeared in an interview with Climbers Crag. The duo teamed up and played a partner quiz with the wild boyz, where they answered a series of questions asked by the host. At one point, the host asked both athletes about the place they “always wanted to climb together…but haven’t?”

Replying to the host’s intrigue, Honnold and Caldwell came up with the same response. They wrote ‘Black Canyon’ on their sheets. Following the quiz, Caldwell conceded, “we discussed going to this place like just you know recently”.

Though Honnold and Caldwell haven’t yet trounced the black canyon, they already aced the amazing feat in the Colorado mountains.

In 2021, the duo made the ascent on 17 peaks in the range of 35 miles. Interestingly, the champions finished the feat in the course of 36 hours. The route covered 65 pitches. Wherein all the routes fall under the difficulty range of 5.6 to 5.11 minus. At the end of their ascent, the climbers gained approximately 20,000 feet.

While the legends have completed the challenging routes of the Colorado mountains, they are now anchoring their focus on Black Canyon. Nevertheless, their moxie and fortitude are what make them the best in the business, don’t you think?
