Vonn recently took to a social media platform following news of Sebastian Vettel retiring from racing to share her grief regarding the departure of the former F1 champion from the sport. The racing driver announced his plan to retire after the end of the season.

The skier, who previously opened up about her interest in the sport, immediately took to Instagram to express her sadness about him leaving the tracks. However, the three-time Olympic medalist wished the motorsport champion the best.

Lindsey expressed her desire to compete in the sport in various interviews. And she frequently attends F1 events and finds the time to visit the tracks to clock some time behind the wheels. However, her dreams of becoming a race driver never came to fruition as she did not want to commit to the sport full time.

However, her liking for the sport did not wane with time, and she still carries the same passion she displayed earlier for it. The alpine skier shared Vettel’s video post as a story on her account. The caption on her story reads, “Sad to see you go Seb! You are a great champion and human being. Wish you the best.”

Reasons behind Vettel’s retirement

In the video, the F1 racer announces this season to be his last. Moreover, he states the reasons he is leaving the sport. The F1 driver has decided to retire to make time for his family. Athletes need to dedicate a lot of time to their profession. Therefore, they find very little time to dedicate to their families.

Vettel’s track rival Hamilton echoed his sentiment numerous times in the past. Therefore, the four-time champion has decided to spend quality time with his loved ones. However, it is not the only reason behind his retirement.

The champion has been quite vocal about environmental issues in the past. And motorsports events contribute to the problem of carbon footprint. And Vettel hinted towards this as well in the video.
