American sensation, star skier Mikaela Shiffrin, is amongst the many in the world who are deeply saddened by the ongoing European crisis. Recently, the champion opened up on the distressing matter and how she is coping with the rise in global tensions.

Notably, the Beijing Winter Olympic was nothing short of a nightmare for Mikaela. However, the champion got back on track at the World Cup races in Lenzerheide. She successfully managed to defend her World No. 1 title against the Slovakian rival, Petra Vlhova. However, the comeback has not been easy for Shiffrin in ways more than one.

The political conflict and its consequences are not only confined to the place of its occurrence, but even to the world that is bearing witness to the catastrophe. On the occasion of International Women’s Day, Mikaela posted a heart-wrenching message on her Instagram handle, expressing her feelings towards the political debacle in Europe.

Mikaela wrote, “Maybe I should mention something more inspiring about international women’s day, or maybe say something about the past weekend of races in Lenzerheide… but my mind has been elsewhere…”

In reference to her upcoming events, she said, “I’ll wake up tomorrow bright-eyed about competing in one of the final races of the World Cup Season, knowing that in only a few weeks I’ll be returning home to family, friends, and “peace”. But it’s not peace, is it.”

Mikaela Shiffrin remains at the top

After Beijing Winter Olympics, there was a serious threat to Mikaela’s World No. 1 title. Rival skier, Petra Vlhova, and Mikaela were at the top with the same number of world cup points. However, with a second and a fourth finish in Lenzerheide, Switzerland, she is again at the top with a lead of 117 overall points. 

While all she got received was disappointment at the Beijing Winter Olympics, it appears now the champion is back in the game. Although it’s extremely hard for her or anyone for that matter to focus on life as usual, amidst the rise in global tensions, Mikaela is a fighter and will certainly get through these dark days like the winner she is.
