“One of the Worst Things”: Lindsey Vonn’s Mother, Recalled the Scare of Watching Her Daughter’s Horrifying Fall in 2013

Lindsey Vonn has established herself as one of the greatest skiing icons the world has ever seen. The four times World Cup Ski Championships winner is the only second woman to achieve this feat.
After having a career that spanned 19 years, Lindsey bid farewell to the sport in 2019 after her final performance in the World Championships held in Sweden. In her long career, she has had her ups and downs. From winning the world championships consecutively three times to having horrific falls while performing. She has seen it all.

Lindsey often revealed how her mother was her biggest support system. Her mother accompanies her during all her matches and cheers for her from the sidelines. She credited her mother for boosting her morale when she felt low and demotivated. Similarly, she was accompanied by her mother during The Alpine World Championships held in Austria. However, this was not like Lindsey’s regular World Championship performance.
While performing, Linsey had a terrifying fall during the drop. Recalling the scare of watching Lindsey’s horrifying fall, her mother said,” I could see Lindsey crash and it was one of the worst things I have ever seen.” After the fall, Lindsey was motionless in the snow. She was taken to the hospital by the paramedics in a helicopter.

Lindsey had a different opinion on the fall. “ Yeah, I have been injured quite a few times in my career. It’s kind of part of the job description. It’s a really fine line between glory and disaster, “ she said, describing her insight on the horrific fall. Lindsey credited her mom for always helping her with her injuries.
Lindsey’s advice to the youth

Lindsey, throughout her career, has always inspired the youth and has laid a foundation to help future generations. Describing what she learned from the fall, she said,” You can’t always win, so you have to work through that and there will always be another race.”
Lindsey believes that no matter what obstacle comes her way, she can always overcome it. “In the end, the overlying theme is to be tough and stay positive,” she said, describing how necessary a strong mindset is when it comes to overcoming hardships and obstacles. The purpose of her never give up attitude is to prove to herself that she can do it.
