USWNT Star Alex Morgan Picks Her Favorite Next Gen Talents for the Squad

Every dynasty has its end after years of success. The USWNT is the most successful soccer team in the world. In the last 10 years, they won four World Cup titles, four Olympic gold medals, and eight CONCACAF Gold Cups. Players like Megan Rapinoe, Carli Lloyd, and Alex Morgan have contributed to the success of the team. Now, it’s time for the old guard to pave the way for younger players.

Recently, Alex Morgan talked about the new kids on the block who have impressed her. She identified Ashley Sanchez and Catarina Macario as those next-generation players.

Alex Morgan discusses next-gen players

Sandra Herrera and Lisa Roman interviewed San Diego Wave FC and USWNT forward Alex Morgan, who discussed the USWNT players who have come to the limelight. Nonetheless, she spoke of not giving up easily on the new-gen talent to take her place in the squad. Still playing at the highest level, Morgan talked about not going easy on these players. Hence, Morgan shed the limelight on two players who she believes have immense potential.

“I think Ashley Sanchez is someone that has really shined. She kind of gives like a little bit of a different look as a 10. Someone who likes to break lines, really crafty, good with her feet, likes to combine. So, I think she has done great,” said Morgan.

In six appearances for her country, Sanchez has one goal and two assists. Thus, she is one of the best talents in the country right now. The next talent she spotted was Lyon’s, Catarina Macario.

The 20-year-old phenomenon has made 16 appearances for the USWNT scoring six goals and dishing out two assists. Her versatility is incredible, as she can play in different positions. Morgan loved her performances in the Champions League as she scored a belter against Juventus to send Lyon to the semi-finals.

“I also think Cat Macario. I haven’t seen her play at the club level as much because Lyon’s not on TV week in, week out. But, obviously with the Champions League and Lindsey now being there as well. It’s great to see the success that Cat has had. She is a player who could play in multiple positions,” mentioned Morgan.

Morgan’s career saw her play 190 appearances as she scored 115 goals and 45 assists. It’s just hard to replace those numbers. However, the new talents coming out are just incredible. USWNT continues to deliver new talents every year. Do you think the team can win the next World Cup in Australia?
