The tragic passing of Kobe Bryant shook everyone. On January 26, 2020, nine people, including Bryant and his daughter Gigi, lost their lives in a tragic helicopter accident. After that tragic event, Nike paid tribute to both by releasing a limited edition, “Mambacita Sweet 16” shoes. They released it to honor Gianna ‘Gigi’ Bryant for her upcoming 16th birthday. In a matter of minutes, the stock sold out as soccer star Alex Morgan received a pair from Nike.

Morgan posted a story on Instagram showcasing her new sneakers. Indeed, the shoes look brilliant.

She wrote “Thank you Mambacita” and displayed her shoes on Instagram via the story. The shoes look stunning with her name Gigi written behind the heel, while a logo of the mamba proves her mentality, just like her father. Vanessa Bryant took to social media to thank Nike for this clean pair of sneakers and penned inspiring words. Bryant mentioned:

“I’m so happy with the way these Mambacita shoes came out in honor of my daughter, Gigi. The ‘Mambacita Sweet 16’ is inspired by her resilient spirit and the love she had, not only for the game, but for her family, friends and community. Part of her legacy is about building a better future for all girls and women in sport, one step at a time.”

Just like her father, Gigi wanted to play in the WNBA. In the meantime, Vanessa had a deal signed with Nike to create apparel to honor her husband, nicknamed the “Black Mamba”.

Nike always releases special edition shoes in honor of their athletes. Even Morgan received her own pair of cleats as she scored 100 goals for USWNT. Having colors close to the national team flag, the number’s font is like the Nike T90 logo. They engineered the shoes to strike the ball perfectly, and the cleats have a very stylish look. Thus, it was a tribute from Nike to one of the greatest soccer players in the game’s history.

Likewise, the latest Mambacita collection looks good, as it is a perfect way to shower tributes for Gianna Bryant. Losing both Gigi and Kobe was really hard, as this is a beautiful initiative from Nike to give them special edition shoes.
