“11 Years of Consistently Lifting Weights”: 71-Year-Old Female Bodybuilder Has No Plans of Stopping

After battling serious health struggles, NPC competitor Renee Landers embarked on her bodybuilding journey at 60 years old. Moreover, she won her very first competition 9 years later. Now, the bodybuilder flaunts her downright lean proportions leaving the bodybuilding community in shock. She has dedicated the later phase of her life to physical fitness and her social media is proof. Likewise, in a recent Instagram post, Landers took a moment to acknowledge her years of hard work along with encouraging her followers to sustain a healthy and fit lifestyle. 

The bodybuilder put in an elaborate caption iterating her inspirational journey. Besides that, she also shared a montage of significant moments from her fitness crusade.

The social media update featured an impressively curated video of the 71-year-old working out followed by a picture of her holding the trophy from her first win in the sport. A brief note, “This is 71” stuck to the video frame. Landers’s caption read, “Great things take time. They can’t be rushed, they can’t be bought”

Further iterating her road to fitness, she wrote, “What you see with me is 11 years of consistently lifting weights…and good nutrition.…” The athlete underwent lower lumbar fusion surgery at 58 years old, which opened her mind to contemplating physical fitness. Reportedly, she hired a professional trainer at 60 and was determined to improve her physique.

“I fell in love with the whole process and have competed in 6 shows so far. I’m 71 now and don’t plan on stopping anytime soon…” the caption added. Before she knew it, she was already on her way to competing in events. She charted her road to fitness superiority at an age when most retire. However, this wasn’t all the icon had to share through her update.

As per the source, the Texas native asserted, “You don’t have to compete! Maybe you just want to get in the best shape you’ve ever been in your life.” A powerful way to motivate most people, who mightn’t be interested in competing.  She added that prioritizing fitness goes a long way over simply appearing shredded. She pointed out that through fitness “you can play with your grandkids, or go dancing every weekend, or travel, the world…”

However, Landers explicitly stated that the process need not be rushed. “Good things do take time….” she disclosed. Additionally, the athlete urged her followers to not be discouraged by age as a barrier, saying, “Don’t be intimidated by your age! Just go get after it!”
