After a series of unfortunate incidents in the surfing domain, another legendary surfer passes away. Big wave trailblazer, Pat Curren died at the age of 90. He was hailed as a pioneer of the sport and has greatly contributed to its development in the country. Curren peaked in his career around the 60s, embarking on his discovery-filled journey. Notably, he fathered the 3x World Champ, Tom Curren.
As per a Facebook post by Surfline, a major tribute unveiling Curren’s personality garnered significant attention from fans. His departure on the 22nd of January 2023, has added to a streak of disappointing losses within the field. Hence, fans resorted to the comments section to salute the surfer and wish for his peace. Brazillian surfer, Marcio Freire died doing what he loved. He lost his life to a gruesome encounter while surfing at Nazare on January 5th. The big guns surfer was 47. His co-surfer and childhood buddy, Yuri Soledale was utterly disheartened and expressed his misery by saying, “Unfortunately it is one of those things you can’t explain what happened. The only thing that comforts me is knowing he passed away doing what he loved.”
Another prominent big-wave surfer, Shaun Walsh from Maui, conveyed his sentiments on the instance. He said, “It’s tragic we lost such an amazing human. It’s affecting a lot of people in the community. He had so many friends everywhere. It’s definitely hitting home very hard.”
