The surfing realm is not limited to the old-school practices of paddling on the waves. Lately, the sport of surfing has seen a hoard full of innovation and creativity. While some express their moxie by surfing with high heels on, others fly kites when catching waves on the surfboard. However, in 2021, a group of Hawaiian surfers took the concept of innovation to a whole new level by introducing a ladder to the world of surfing.

Ladder Paddling! Is it possible?

Surfer and big wave paddler, Jamie O’Brien documents all things surfing and shares it with his fandom through his YouTube channel. One video of his surfing spree came out in 2021 and left everyone astounded. In the vlog, O’Brien and his friends can be seen chasing the barrels, all while standing on the ladder. More so, before pulling off their extraordinary stunt on the water, Brien and his team followed a series of safety measures to ensure that all protocols were in place and that the wipeouts and other dangers would not cause them any harm.

While getting ready with their wetsuits and construction caps, one of O’Brien’s acquaintances stated, “definitely going to be a hazard, so you’re going to want to see it coming.” Mentioning the striking colors of their wetsuits, O’Brien’s friend further added, “we got bright colors, we got loud voices so hopefully no one gets round over.

Once they reached the North shore of Hawaii with their ladder-strapped surfboards, one of the surfers conceded in front of the camera, “I don’t want anyone getting hurt out there. Everyone’s going to have safety vests, hard hats.” Following this, the group of thrill chasers went on with their ladder surfboards in the oceans to catch the waves. What came next is the sight of some exciting surfing prompts.

How did it end for the ladder paddlers?

After reaching the point of dominating wave crests, the surfers started climbing on their ladders to catch the waves. However, after reaching the top, the surfers lost their balance on the ladder and eventually fell into the water.

Though the ladder hindered their surfing attempts in the sea, the surfers seemed to enjoy the free falls thoroughly. More so, to get a kick of adrenaline in his viewers, O’Brien added Eric Carmen’s Make Me Lose Control in the background.
