A moment of great-meets-great occurred during the Australian Grand Prix on Sunday. Surfing legend, Kelly Slater was greeted by F1 champion, Lewis Hamilton moments after his final race. An update on Twitter displayed the athletic greats indulging in a conversation while at the Mercedes garage. Despite his loss in Melbourne, he appeared cheerful in one of Slater’s Instagram stories posted hours ago, which depicted his true sportsmanship.

Moreover, the surfing icon shared a series of stories featuring the star racer coming up to him for a quick hug. In his stories, Slater also put in brief notes describing the British prodigy’s glee and also thanked Mercedes and Hamilton for their welcoming conduct.

Kelly Slater meets Lewis Hamilton at the Australian Grand Prix

As per the social media updates, the legends meeting each other was an iconic moment for the sports community. Reportedly, reigning champion, Max Verstappen set his name to the 2023 Australian Grand Prix while the eight-time World Champion missed his title by a slight finish. He was placed second in the tumultuous race, which concluded with a safety car and a lot of chaos. “Surfing legend Kelly Slater with Lewis in the Mercedes garage today,” the caption of a Twitter post stated while the two stood face-to-face in the famed garage.

Regardless, the 51-year-old WSL champion’s updates reflected his praise for the racer. “Relaxed after a long and eventful race,” he wrote in his Instagram story while Hamilton, walking towards him, appeared in the background. In the prior update, Slater thanked the organization and the athlete, saying, “Thanks to @lewishamilton and @mercedesamgf1 for the hospitality today. Nice finish early in the year!”

Interestingly, his foremost story stated that the surfer was on his way to Bells when he thought of catching a sight of the F1 icon in his element. He wrote, “On the way to Bells. Figured I’d stop and see @lewishamilton do his thing.” Trophy or not, Slater gracing his presence into another champion’s kingdom itself was a top moment for the two sporting domains. Moreover, ahead of the deciding race, Hamilton’s father enlightened him with precious advice.
