American big wave surfer Laird Hamilton is quite a deal in the surfing domain. In fact, he has overpowered some of the most gigantic waves ever. Besides that, he also co-invented tow-in surfing, stand-up paddle, and more.

Hamilton recently shared an Instagram update featuring himself gliding through the waves on a hydrofoil surfboard. Assuredly, he seemed to have the time of his life. Let’s find out more about his latest adventure. 

Laird Hamilton shares his hydroboard feat

As per his social media update, the flawlessly captured moment of the 58-year-old athlete was more of a dreamy affair. He zoomed past the ocean swells on the futuristic board, almost giving the idea of a flying Hamilton. Surprisingly, the hydrofoil board happens to be one of his own innovations.

Addressing the experience in his caption, he wrote, “Fun day in the neighborhood. After some bigger days had some relaxed fun playing around on these beauties.” Evidently, it was one of those unwinding times for the surfing legend.

Nicknamed Waterman, he was also acclaimed by Surfer Magazine as “the sport’s most complete surfer,” further extending his major contributions to the daring sport. While his name has become synonymous with the sport, the man of such ingenuity once opened up about his childhood trauma. 

Laird Hamilton’s difficult relationship with his step-dad

Talking to Graham Bensinger in 2018, the surfing pro once revealed how his step-father physically abused him in his childhood. However, he chose to forgive him and heal from his past now. “You know my mom was always about forgiveness. You hope they forgive you and you should forgive them,” he said. 

In addition, Hamilton was only 14 years younger than his step-dad. Hence, it built on the natural adversities of their relationship. “The fact is he was just young and didn’t have a lot of control over his temper and had a wicked temper.” the athlete admitted.
