The big wave surfer, Kelly Slater, is indeed one of the best surfers. Throughout his career, he conquered many threatening waves and bagged several prestigious accolades. However, the 50-year-old also fell prey to some vicious surfing incidents.

A couple of years back, in an interview, Kelly Slater talked about some dangerous waves of his career that nearly knocked him out in the ocean.

Kelly Slater mentions dangerous surfing spots he had been to

In 2016, Kelly Slater appeared in an interview with Graham Bensinger. The 50-year-old surfer chatted about the most fatal wipeouts of his career. At one point, the host asked Slater about the most dangerous place he ever surfed. On this, Slater said, “I would say pipeline”. Explaining what makes the Banzai pipeline dangerous, the surfer added, “its shallow, it’s an intense wave.” As per Slater, many surfers even died while surfing in the pipeline.

The second dangerous surfing spot according to Slater is Mavericks wave at Half Moon Bay. “It’s just a big giant wave. It’s way bigger than pretty much all the waves around it.” Slater further described every element that makes the Mavericks one of the most dangerous waves. “It’s got every element of fear,” disclosed Slater.

Clearly, the legendary surfer found his way through some of the most menacing waves of the ocean. He truly is a legend.

Kelly Slater got seriously injured in a wipeout

The 11x world surf league champion, Kelly Slater suffered from some fatal injuries throughout his career. For instance, 5 years ago, when Slater was surfing at Jeffreys Bay in South Africa, he got swallowed up by the wave. As a result, his foot got severely injured as his metatarsals got snapped into two. The 50-year-old surfer even shared the X-ray of his broken bone on his Instagram handle.

From Snapped fingers to a dislocated shoulder, Slater underwent many severe injuries. However, it didn’t stop him from becoming one of the greatest in the sport of surfing.
