The surfing legend, Kelly Slater loves his sport of surfing dearly. The 11-time world surf league champion is highly regarded for his exciting prompts and techniques. However, surfing is not the only sport that Slater admires. 

Many a time, Slater was spotted taking interest in cross-field sporting activities. Likewise, he loves to play golf, as he often posts his pictures from the golf course. Though, golf is not the only sport that piques Slater’s interest. A few years back, Slater revealed he is a big fan of MMA.

Kelly Slater loves MMA

In 2014, in an exclusive interview with ‘USA Today sports’, Kelly revealed he is a big fan of Mixed Martial Arts. “I love the sport’, said Kelly. He even debunked some myths about the sport as well. He added, “I think people who don’t understand the sport see it as brutality. They don’t understand the chess match. Fighters understand the danger.”

As per the interview, being good friends with Vitor Belfort helped Slater to understand a thing or two about MMA. Along with this, Slater also helped UFC president, Dana White’s son with surfing. That made his link with MMA even more strong. 

Further, when the host asked him about his choice of players to set up a fight, Slater picked Jon Jones and Cain Velasquez. “If I was going to put a dream match together right now, I’d probably want to see Jon Jones and Cain Velasquez fight”, Kelly confessed.

Clearly, Slater admires MMA and he never shies away to express his interest in sports other than surfing.

Kelly’s interests are not limited to surfing

Kelly Slater has done some exceptional performances in surfing. While he is a commendable surfer, he also takes a keen interest in other sports such as golf, MMA, and jiu jitsu. The surfer even took part in the Ryder cup celebrity golf match. Slater also is close-knitted with many athletes across different arenas. 

Slater is not only a legendary athlete, but he also has a genuine spirit of sportsmanship. After all, he indulges in cross-sports activities with grand passion and impressive zest.
