Surf legend, Kelly Slater’s retirement news has been going around for a while now. After he hinted at it in 2019, it’s all the surfing domain can wonder about. Recently, the athlete teased another concluding note on his surfing career while at the Rip Curl Pro Portugal. Slater enlightened his fans with a complete tour of the competitor area. However, he ended the tour with a message that might send put fans into a dilemma all over again. 

In an Instagram story, the icon implied that this might be his very last event in Portugal. This came just days after he revealed his expectation from the 2024 Olympics, and that it would mark his exit from pro competing. 

Kelly Slater is serious about his retirement 

Although many might find it hard to believe, the 51-year-old surfer seems determined on his retreat from the field. As per the social media update, he enthusiastically showed around the premises of the pro event, however, there was a solid purpose behind it. He ended his tour in the dressing room with a lingering emotion. “I’m done for the year. I might be done forever in Portugal, we’ll see…” the 11x WSL champion denoted. 

Adding to it, Slater shed light on the matter in another of his interviews last month. The interview was primarily based on his Apple TV+ series promotion, Make or Break. Apart from that, he gravitated towards the vision for his achievement-laden athletic journey. The pro disclosed that he aspires to compete at the games next year, since, he wasn’t able to make it to the 2020 Tokyo Olympics.
