The deep blue oceanic tarmac has paved the way for many surfing enthusiasts. From taking the surfers to the pinnacle of its crest to macadamizing the way to chase some big waves, the ocean has always welcomed everyone who seeks solace in its infinity. And, now to pay their reverence to their azure haven, the World Surf League organization has come forward with a way to conserve the ocean’s natural habitat. And, as a connoisseur of aquatic health, the WSL has built many ways to protect their natural setting: the ocean.

Man-made climatic change and environmental degradation have immensely affected the natural habitation that resides deep within the sea. However, as its stakeholders, World Surf League has designed various ways to rectify man-made damages by making oceans more sustainable. 

WSL’s vision to protect oceans

As per Sports business journal, the World Surf League has taken the initiative to save its surfing arena. Following the motto of “We are One Ocean”, the WSL’s chief people officer, Emily Hofer said, “It’s essential to the future of our sport to protect our global ocean”. And, as a head of environmental and social impact, Hofer added, “It’s our office, our arena, our stadium”. Furthermore, she stated, “as surfers, it’s our home, the place we find peace”.

Interestingly, by keeping global oceanic degradation in mind, WSL created its non-profit unit called WSL Pure in 2016. Since then, the organization is taking holistic approaches to preserve the world’s oceans. Moreover, during the whole span of 2022, WSL Pure has done a commendable job of spreading environmental awareness. From “collecting 100 tons of plastic from Indonesia’s river” to “seeding heat-resistant coral reefs in Tahiti”, WSL has covered it all.
