The sport of surfing is not without its terrors. From brutal wipeouts to ferocious shark attacks, the deep blue oceanic tarmac has many dangers lurking beneath it. But, have you ever heard about a surfer beating his fellow paddler? While it sounds atypical when it comes to surfing, it happens to be real. 

A year ago, an Australian surfer repeatedly pummeled his fellow bodyboarder while both of them were catching a wave. Following this incident, many beachgoers who witnessed the fiasco condemned the surfer who thrashed the bodyboarder. Moreover, for creating a ruckus in the middle of nowhere, many took their rage to social media and left a series of critical comments.

Surfer received criticism for pummeling a fellow body border

In July 2022, a veteran surfer was chasing a wave at Gold Coast Superbank at Snapper rocks, Australia. While he was paddling into the incoming wave, a young bodyboarder also stepped in, vying for the same wave. However, both surfers were wiped out by the barrel. Following the wipeout, the surfer grimaced at the young paddler and started punching him incessantly.

The whole debacle was documented by an onlooker and was later posted on Instagram by the surfer magazine 18 seconds. Captioning the video, the magazine penned, “some pumping waves today. Dust-ups too. We don’t condone violence. It’s never the answer”.

The top comment is by surfing icon Kelly Slater. Slater wrote, “There’s a lot to decipher here. There is no order at Snapper which sucks. Sounds like he snaked the sponger who was a kid and then hit him. A lot of bad in this whole thing. Bummer. Maybe waves should be difficulty rated and surfers should have a belt system. 😂 That should go over well.”

Many surfing fanatics congregated in the comment section with a series of opinions for the elder surfer. While one called the offender “weak and embarrassing” for beating a kid, another suggested filing “assault charges”.

Moreover, a woman who was surfing alongside both, also screamed, “he’s a kid, dude” while the surfer was taking the hits at the young paddler.
