The world of surfing is known to have many great legends. There are champions who dauntlessly trounce upon the wave’s crest, and then there are heroes who hold the fort from outside the sea. And one such hero was China Uemura, a well-regarded surf organizer. Uemura was a Hawaiian surfing prodigy, who organized many surf events in the span of his lifetime. However, a few days ago he left the world, leaving behind his venerated legacy and surfing bequest.

China Uemura was a surf event organizer and a native of Hawaii. He ran China Uemura Longboard surfing classic at Kuhio beach and Wahine surfing classic at Waikiki for almost 3 decades. Unfortunately, on the evening of 6th January 2022, Honolulu-based surfing coordinator, Uemura passed away at 68 due to his degrading health condition. And, to pay their sincere eulogies, China’s friends and family expressed their reverent tributes for him.

China Uemura received homage and Eulogies

The official Instagram handle of China’s surfing foundation recently shared a collage of Uemura, in order to pay him their sincere homage. And, captioning the post, his daughter penned, “It was one hell of a ride pops. All the stories of you in your wild days, and all the love you poured into the community”.

Moreover, expressing her heartfelt eulogy, Uemura’s daughter wrote, “Rest easy. We love you and so will all the people you’ve reached with your kindness”. She further expressed her gratitude toward his father’s well-wishers by adding, “Mahalo everyone for your prayers, and kind messages. Dad’s in a better place, no pain, no sadness, only happiness

As per Khon’s report, in November 2022, the surfing prodigy fell and got “paralyzed from the neck down”. And, forthwith his paralysis, Uemura soon underwent “neck/spine surgery”. From that point on, China was facing multiple health challenges. 

From running a non-profit surfing foundation to organizing successful surfing events, the staunch champion had everything covered. Interestingly, Uemura’s foundation donates all the money it raises to the local charities. Clearly, Uemura was a true legend through and through. Rest in Peace legend!
