“So Much Blood Coming Out”: American Surfing Star’s Worst Nightmare Came True After Witnessing a Horrific Accident Once

The sport of surfing is not only known for its adrenaline rush, but also for the dangers it holds under the infinity of the big blue ocean. Because of its menacing wipeouts and the treacherous attacks of aquatic beasts, surfing is definitely not child’s play. However, the list of oceanic perils does not end here. Collision with cavernous reefs is also a big challenge for surfers while paddling on a giant wave.

A couple of years ago, American surfing sensation Balaram Stack witnessed a terrifying accident where another surfer was paddling his way into the ocean and got smashed into the reef. Following the accident, the episode left a disturbing impression on Stack. Let’s dive deep into this surfing episode.

A treacherous coral reef encounter

In 2017, the Culture Trip documented some of the most terrifying surfing accidents. One of those incidents took place in Long Beach, New York. As per the report, Florida-based surfer, Balaram Stack was having lunch on Lombok and witnessed a surfer paddling into the ocean and getting into a horrific accident. Explaining the brutality of the accident, Stack said, “This dude had smashed his face into the reef. From the side of his nose, all the way down to his lip was in half, and there was a golf ball indent above his eyebrow”, which left the surfer unconscious.

In order to help the injured, Stack volunteered to give CPR. As a result, the wounded surfer started, “puking up all the water and foam”. Moreover, due to the fatal wounds, “there was just so much blood coming out”, disclosed Balaram.

However, the surfer who fell prey to the reefs, was immediately transferred to a hospital, which helped stabilize his condition. But, the whole instance left a disturbing memory in Stack’s mind. “It’s hard to get that out of your mind”, he added.
