However, a Californian surfer macadamized the way to honor those who loved the ocean dearly but unfortunately passed away without pursuing their passion for waves.

Last year, a Newport-based surfer, Dan Fischer took an initiative to pay his sincere eulogies to those who besotted the sea but died without quenching their fascination for the ocean. The 43-year-old surfer coupled his love for surfing with the healing power of the ocean to help those who lost their loved ones.

A ‘One Last Wave’ Project to honor those who loved the ocean
When he was 15, Fischer lost his father, Karl Fischer, to pancreatic cancer. Nevertheless, the surfer’s father was fascinated with the azure waves. Therefore, in 2022, Fischer decided to pay his father his heartfelt tribute by doing what his dad loved the most. So, he etched his dad’s name on his surfing board and took it out to sea in Rhode Island.

Shortly after that, the 43-year-old decided to help everyone who is grieving the loss of their dear ones. In order to honor the ones who died, but shared his love of the ocean, Fischer started an initiative called, “one last wave”. Through One Last Wave, the Newport native scribbles the name of people who passed away and take his surfboard into the ocean to honor them with one last adventure.

As per the report of the Independent, the surfer stated, “It’s a very different experience for me that it used to be when it was just me and the board”. He further continued, “Now, it’s sort of me and all these individuals”. With One Last Wave, Fischer “feel a commitment to helping their families and honoring them every time I go out”.

Interestingly, the surfer’s two boards were filled with a hoard full of names. In May 2022, if one board contained 1500 names, the other was brimming with 2000 names. Now, the surfer welcomes everyone who wants to pay tribute to their close ones. He provides his kind services through his email and social media handles. Dan Fischer is definitely a staunch champion, don’t you think?
